In Traditional Chinese Medicine, gua sha is used to move qi (energy) and blood through the body.

Part of RELEASE.

What it is

A smooth, wide-tooth comb hand-carved from raw tiger's eye. The rounded teeth reach through hair to the scalp, and the flat back and curved edges work across the body. Natural stone, so colour and banding vary slightly.

Who it's for

Anyone holding tension in their scalp, neck or body, from first-time users to practitioners. Works on all hair types.

How to use

  1. On the scalp, use it dry or with a few drops of oil, like N°8 Flow Oil.
  2. On the body, apply an oil so the stone glides.
  3. Start with a light touch, then build pressure slowly.
  4. Move intuitively. Let the areas where you notice tension guide where you go.

Care & safety

Care

Wash with mild soap and lukewarm water after each use, dry fully and store in its pouch. Avoid hot water and hard surfaces. Stone can chip if dropped.

Safety

Don't use over broken skin, active breakouts, sunburn, rashes or recent injections or procedures. Use very light pressure on the front of the neck. If you bruise easily, take blood thinners, are pregnant or have a medical condition, check with your healthcare provider first. Light pinkness is normal, this is blood flow. Petechiae may occur.

The anatomy

Fascia is the connective tissue that wraps and links every muscle, including the thin layer across the scalp. Gua sha works on muscle and fascia: slow, intentional strokes may ease tension and restriction and bring blood flow to the area.

The glymphatic system is the brain's own clearing system. Releasing tension through the scalp and neck may help it drain, which is why many people feel clearer and calmer after scalp massage.

Cellulite forms where bands of connective tissue, called fibrous septae, pull down on the skin while fat pushes up. Regular massage may help relax these bands, which can soften the look of cellulite over time. It won't remove cellulite completely, and results depend on consistency.

Gua sha isn't a lymphatic drainage technique. For that, see The Lymphatic Brush.

FAQ

Can I use it on dry hair?

Yes. Use it on dry hair, or add a few drops of oil for a scalp treatment.

Will it help my hair grow?

It supports blood flow to the scalp, and many people love it as part of a scalp routine, but no tool can promise hair growth.

Will it get rid of my cellulite?

No tool can remove cellulite completely. Used consistently, massage may help relax the fibrous septae and soften its appearance.

How often should I use it?

A few minutes, a few times a week. Consistency matters more than pressure.

Is gua sha the same as lymphatic drainage?

No. Gua sha works on muscle and fascia, and releasing tension may help fluid move more freely. For lymphatic drainage, we recommend The Lymphatic Brush.

Why does my comb look different from the photo?

Natural stone varies in colour and banding.
