What it is

A hand-held, mushroom-shaped gemstone designed by Cecily Braden. The rounded cap fits into the jaw, brow, neck and shoulders to melt away tension, and it holds warmth for a deeply relaxing massage.

In crystal traditions, tiger's eye is said to bring focus, courage and a sense of calm confidence.

Inner Beauty Shop is the official Canadian distributor of Cecily Braden Spa & Wellness tools.

Who it's for

Anyone holding tension in the face, jaw, neck or shoulders, including jaw clenchers and teeth grinders. For self-care and professional facials.

How to use

  1. Warm it first: run it under or immerse it in hot water, or use a hot towel cabinet or steamer. Always test the heat on your skin before use.
  2. Apply an oil so the stone glides.
  3. Use one mushroom, or two at once on the left and right sides.
  4. Work slowly into areas of tension with comfortable pressure.
  5. Professionals: alternate two mushrooms so one warms while you use the other.
  6. For Cecily's technique, see her Tension Tamer online self-care tutorial.

Care & safety

Care

Wash with mild soap and lukewarm water after each use and dry fully. Stone can chip if dropped. Avoid sudden extreme temperature changes.

Safety

Always test the temperature before use. Don't use over broken skin, active breakouts, sunburn, rashes or recent injections or procedures. If you have a medical condition, are pregnant or have ongoing jaw or joint pain, check with your healthcare provider first.

The anatomy

Tension in the jaw, brow and shoulders is held in muscle and fascia. Warmth helps muscles soften, and slow pressure helps them release. Gua sha works on muscle and fascia. As tension releases, it supports the movement of lymph and blood through the tissues. For dedicated lymphatic drainage, pair it with The Lymphatic Brush. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, gua sha is used to move qi (energy) and blood.
